Dr. Scott Wadler Named to Silver Professorship

Dr. Scott Wadler, a leader in the development of new therapies for colorectal and gynecologic cancers and other malignancies, has been appointed the first incumbent of the Richard T. Silver Distinguished Professorship of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Weill Medical College of Cornell University.


The new professorship was established last year through the support of the Cancer Research & Treatment Fund in honor of Dr. Silver, a clinical professor of medicine at the medical college. The Cancer Research & Treatment Fund is dedicated to the support of clinical cancer research at Weill-Cornell.

Dr. Wadler comes to his new position from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he was a professor of medicine and of obstetrics and gynecology and where he directed the gastrointestinal oncology program. He was an attending physician at Montefiore Hospital as well as at Bronx Municipal Hospital and North Central Bronx Hospital.


A versatile clinical investigator whose name regularly appears on lists of best doctors in New York and the Northeast, Dr. Wadler is currently a principal investigator or study chairman in nine different therapeutic trials for cancer of the cervix, colorectal cancer, head and neck carcinoma, ovarian cancer, pancreatic cancer, and adenocarcinoma of the liver.


Dr. Wadler is the author or a co-author of more than 150 articles in professional journals and books. He serves on the editorial boards of The Cancer Journal from Scientific American and of Clinical Colorectal Cancer. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a diplomate in both internal medicine and medical oncology of the American Board of Internal Medicine.


Dr. Wadler has been a prominent participant in several leading organizations in clinical cancer research. Since 1991 he has been a core member of the gastrointestinal and biologics committees of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group, and from 1992 to 1999 he served as chairman of ECOGís gynecologic oncology committee.


Dr. Wadler received his bachelorís degree from Dartmouth College and his M.D. from New York University, where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. He trained in internal medicine at Bellevue Hospital, in Manhattan, from 1980 to 1983, then participated in successive fellowships in oncology at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine and NYU before joining the faculty of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1985.
