Dr. Richard Silver, Medical Director of CR&T, co-chaired with Dr. Ayalew Tefferi of Mayo Clinic, an international working group of twenty two specialists in the area of myelofibrosis with myeloid metaplasia (MMM). The result of the meeting held at the MD Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas was the creation of a consensus criteria for the treatment of the disease.
Changes are rapidly occurring in current treatment regimens due to promising research in both allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and novel drugs as well as the development of new agents in the area of targeted disease-specific treatments. The group felt it was “essential to establish a uniform response criteria that allows for valid inter-study comparisons and an accurate assessment of efficacy of newer therapies.”
Partial funding for the project was provided by CR&T through the William Waugh and Judy Olin Higgins Research Fund.
