Monoclonal Antibody Therapy with Avastin
NCI 5611: Phase I/II trial of bevacizumab (Avastin) in patients with hepatocellular cancer. Bevacizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody directed against vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), a key promoter of the blood-vessel development that is essential to the growth of tumors.
Consortium study.

Thalidomide for Chemoembolization
NCI 99: A phase-II trial of chronic thalidomide administration in patients undergoing chemoembolization for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma. Chemoembolization is a treatment to block blood circulation to liver tumors while infusing anti-cancer drugs (in this trial doxorubicin) directly to the tumors. The study tests whether administration of oral thalidomide before and after chemoembolization leads to improved patient outcomes.
