Metastatic Cervical Cancer
NCI 5840: A phase-II trial of oxaliplatin in combination with paclitaxel (Taxol) in patients with locally recurrent or metastatic cervical cancer. On day one patients receive paclitaxel intravenously over three hours and oxaliplatin intravenously over two hours, with courses repeated very 21 days.

Ovarian Cancer
NCI 5886: A phase-II study of OSI-774 (erlotinib) in combination with carboplatin and paclitaxel (Taxol) for patients with advanced ovarian or peritoneal cancer. One of a new generation of molecule-targeting drugs, OSI-774 homes in on the epidermal growth factor receptor, a cell-surface protein that appears to play a role in many cancers. Patients receive paclitaxel and carboplatin intravenously on day one of the trial and take erlotinib orally daily. Treatment repeats every 21 days for up to six courses.
