About CR&T

The Cancer Research and Treatment Fund is a not-for-profit organization that was founded in 1968 dedicated to exploring blood diseases as a gateway to the cure for all cancers. We established the Center for the Study of Leukemia and Myeloproliferative Diseases at Weill Cornell Medical College in 2002 through the generosity of friends of CR&T. Medical history has shown us that although only a minority of the population suffer from blood diseases, breakthroughs in this area of cancer research has led to breakthroughs and a better understanding of the biology and treatment of other forms of cancer.

Our goal is to improve on current treatments for leukemia and myeloproliferative diseases with the conviction that blood-cancer research has a unique role to play in the conquest of all malignancies. We have been involved with the most recent breakthrough discoveries of Gleevec (2002) and now the JAK2 enzyme (2005) cancer marker. We have achieved these successes by seeking solutions, principally biological, pharmacological and molecular to understand cancer, and to design drugs and diagnostic tools based on this new knowledge. It is this multidisciplinary approach which offers the greatest promise against all varieties of cancer.

For more than three decades the Cancer Research & Treatment Fund has been a major source of financial support for clinical cancer research at one of the world’s great medical colleges, Weill Medical College of Cornell University, located at the New York Hospital division of New York-Presbyterian Hospital. We have also given grants for research at Johns Hopkins and MD Anderson Cancer Centers.
